Announcement: Call for Chairs of MEAPP Working Groups

MEAPP is seeking dedicated individuals to appoint as Chairs for FIVE key working groups: Ethics, Policy & Communication, Membership, External Affairs and Education & Standards. These roles offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of Pharmaceutical Medicine in the Middle East region and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our community.

Key Details:

  • Reporting Structure: Chairs will report directly to the Board of Trustees.
  • Time Commitment for the Chair Position:

This is a voluntary role, and the actual time commitment may vary depending on the specific needs and activities of the working group. On average, the role of Chair is estimated to require 5–8 hours per month, which includes:

  • Preparing for and attending monthly meetings with the working group members and reporting to the Board of Trustees / Executive Office.
  • Engaging in ongoing communication and collaboration with members, stakeholders, and other MEAPP Working Groups, when required.
  • Reviewing materials, providing feedback, and contributing to the development of initiatives, publications, or projects.
  • Additional time may be required during peak activity periods, such as planning events, developing webinars, or finalizing deliverables.
  • This is a voluntary position driven by passion and commitment to our mission. However, related expenses will be reimbursed upon approval of the board of trustees.

Policy and Communication WG Objectives:

  • Develop the MEAPP’s policy work, and to coordinate and facilitate liaisons with both the membership and with external bodies, including media and PR activities and consultation responses.
  • The Committee oversees the running of the Annual Conference Symposium and other meetings.
  • The group, in co-ordination with the President and MEAPP staff, deals with inquiries from the press and media on matters of importance to MEAPP and its members.
  • Facilitate the coordination, communication, and dissemination of relevant information in Pharmaceutical Medicine among MEAPP members.
  • Ensure the coordination, promotion, and advertising of education and training programs offered by MEAPP to the appropriate target audiences.
  • Keep the MEAPP community informed about the latest advancements in the fields of drug and medical device development.
  • Maintain regular, up-to-date communication and information sharing through our dedicated communication channels: the MEAPP website, Social Media Platforms, and a quarterly newsletter.

Ethics WG Objectives:

  • Identify current and pressing issues in clinical research ethics.
  • Identify national and international partners to establish strategic alliances with key stakeholders, raising awareness of critical ethical issues.
  • Monitor and evaluate the rapidly evolving landscape to detect emerging trends in research ethics.
  • Address ethical challenges related to new technologies, such as ePRO, eConsent, genome editing, patient privacy versus secondary data use (including RWD), post-trial access to investigational medications, patient centricity, and more.
  • Develop publications that explore not only emerging ethical trends but also ongoing concerns within the field of Pharmaceutical Medicine.
  • Contribute to public consultations on behalf of MEAPP to provide expert input on ethical matters and influence policy development.

Education and Standards WG Objectives:

  • Explore, promote, and endorse New and affordable online learning opportunities
  • Actively promote the recognition of educational programs to advance the discipline of Pharmaceutical medicine, ensuring alignment with the latest requirements from medicines regulatory agencies (e.g., EMA, FDA, and national governmental bodies). MEAPP will endeavor to incorporate the most up-to-date content into these educational initiatives, maintaining their relevance and quality
  • Develop webinars providing accessible and timely education on key topics in Pharmaceutical Medicine to MEAPP members.

Membership Working Group:

  • Focus exclusively on membership and work to put members at the heart of everything we do.
  • Raise awareness of the education, support and opportunities offered by MEAPP to increase membership, both within the Middle East and internationally.
  • Engage with our members so they are included and listened to.
  • Be open to new ideas and suggestions to better meet our members’ needs.
  • Ensure a membership that is more inclusive and more impactful, and for incoming members to feel welcome and included.
  • Ensure the Membership is more accessible and requirements for becoming a member and how to apply should be transparent and straightforward.
  • Focus on growing our membership, extending and improving the benefits and services we provide, and reviewing associated entitlements and privileges.
  • Approve applications for Membership.

External Affairs Working Group (EAWG):

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with MEAPP’s key stakeholders, i.e. Academia, Research institutions, other professional associations, government agencies and other organisations and institutions with a mandate in Global Pharmaceutical Medicine.
  • The scope of the EAWG is based on MEAPP’s overall strategy and mission to promote Pharmaceutical Medicine in the Middle East with regard to the discovery, development, research and use of medicines.
  • Collaborate with National Member Associations in promoting MEAPP at international & national conferences/symposia/fora on Pharmaceutical Medicine.
  • Identify potential partners [national/international/regional] to cooperate with and initiate and maintain sustainable relationships, thereby building a reliable network of partners.
  • Develop strategic alliances with key stakeholders to raise awareness of MEAPP’s vision and mission.
  • Monitor and assess the rapidly changing environment for new trends, regulations, policy developments and technologies in Pharmaceutical Medicine (Horizon Scanning).
  • Share intelligence with the other MEAPP WGs, in particular the Communications WG.
  • Collaborate closely with the other MEAPP WGs and align on topics and activities, thereby using synergies whenever possible.
