Last Thursday, we successfully concluded the third and final module, Health Technology Assessment and Pharmacoeconomics, of our Capacity Building Programme for Enhancing Clinical Research and Drug Development in Egypt, a collaborative initiative between King’s College London(KCL), Future University in Egypt (FUE), and MEAPP, funded by the British Council Going Global Partnerships Programme.
Thirty-eight participants from academia, governmental sectors, research institutes, CROs and hospitals joined us for an intensive week of learning.Over five days, they engaged in lectures, case studies, and workshops that deepened their understanding of health technology assessment and pharmacoeconomics.
A special thanks to the module leader Dr Laurent Pacheco, MD PhD MBA FFPM GFMD, for sharing his time, knowledge, and insights tirelessly throughout the week, and for his dedication and patience with participants.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our distinguished speakers who joined us online to share their knowledge and insights Dr Manuel García-Goñi, Dr Sreeram Ramagopalan, Dr Chris Teale, and Dr Gwilym Thompson and to Dr Nouran El Desouky, who joined us on the final day to highlight the ongoing reform of healthcare in Egypt.
We concluded the programme with a lively career discussion session, which inspired participants to think about their next steps in clinical research, HTA, and pharmacoeconomics.
A special thank you to the orchestrating team, led by Dr. Assem el Baghdady, MD, FFPM, FRCP, and Prof. Hanan M. Refaat. The steering committee Prof.Azza Mahmoud, Dr Nouran Omar, PhD, Dr Dina Khaled (FUE) and Dr Yasmin Nagaty, Dr Basma Ismael(MEAPP), who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
And of course, thanks to the participants themselves, whose enthusiasm and engagement truly brought this module to life.
Building on this momentum, we hope that Egypt will continue to institutionalize HTA practices and foster multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure sustainable, evidence-based healthcare decisions that strengthen our national research and health systems.
